The host organizations facilitated consultations with community members, leaders, and organizations virtually. In some cases, in-person consultation sessions were organized. A brief profile of each host organization is summarized below:
African Communities of Manitoba Inc – ACOMI
The African Communities of Manitoba Inc (ACOMI) is the umbrella organization of people of African descent in Manitoba and one of the leading black-led, equity seeking, non-profit organizations in western Canada. With over 50 community organizations as affiliates, ACOMI delivers community-level programming that ensures people of African Descent and other marginalized communities have access to the resources and services needed to address issues of poverty, homelessness, education, health, nutrition, racism, and social exclusion. ACOMI operates two programming locations at 421 Kennedy Street, Downtown Winnipeg and 301 Nassau Street, Winnipeg south, Manitoba where it serves more than 3000 clients annually with services such as free income tax filing services, seniors’ events, digital and language classes, employment training, newcomers support programs, cultural celebrations, and youth mentorship programs. ACOMI also serve as a Cultural Hub for promoting and preserving Black heritage and African culture.
CP Planning
CP Planning CP Planning federally incorporated and Black-led non-profit urban planning organization practicing a human rights-based approach to community planning. We are based in Toronto, Ontario. We provide comprehensive planning services across the province’s major cities, and advisory services in support of national programs. Our comprehensive community planning services include strategic planning, facilitation, collaborative design, and research, alongside capacity development and network weaving in support of affordable housing development and inclusive economies.
Hogan’s Alley Society
The Hogan’s Alley Society (HAS) is a non-profit organization composed of civil rights activists, business professionals, community organizations, artists, writers, and academics committed to daylighting the presence of Black history in Vancouver and throughout British Columbia. HAS adopts research driven approach to community development that seeks to preserve and promote the historical, cultural, societal, and economic contributions made by Black people and their descendants to Vancouver, Greater Vancouver, the Province of British Columbia, the Pacific Northwest, and Canada.

The Africa Centre serves as a hub that provides programming and access services from a place of cultural awareness and competency for individuals and families. Our mandate is to build a thriving community of African Canadians in Alberta with full access and participation in our programs and services.
The Upper Hammonds Plains Community Land Trust
